16 Regiment Royal Artillery serves in an air defence role for the British Army. In 2012 Thales rebranded the system. It is a 24-hour all-weather guided weapon system with a primary role of providing limited area air defence cover against fixed wing aircraft helicopters Unmanned Air Vehicles UAV and cruise missiles.

The British Army did not purchase the Blindfire system until 1979 entering service with Rapier Field Standard A FSA. It then launches three laser beam riding submunitions increasing the likelihood of a successful hit on the target.

Sky Sabre air defence missile system was recently unveiled at the home of 16 Regiment Royal Artillery. Described as a truly integrated air defence system Sky Sabre is intended to enable British forces to identify and engage enemy targets at much greater distance than its predecessor. Speaking yesterday at the unveiling Air Commodore Ian Gale MBE Senior Responsible Officer for the introduction of the system said.

Starstreak has been in service with the British Army since 1997.
